#08 Know Your Story- Interview with Rev. Sarah Heath

media-header_mini-960x360

The Reverend Sarah Heath knows the tension of feeling as if she’s “too much but never enough.” She rattles expectations of what a typical lead pastor should look like and challenges the norms of what it means to be a Christian. When she was called to the ministry, it wasn’t exactly what she had in mind. However, through the various struggles that come with being a woman in a church leadership position, God has proven faithful. Sarah’s story of courage and vulnerability reminds us that we need to have both in order to fully own our story. Her upcoming book, “What’s Your Story? Seeing Your Life Through God’s Eyes,” which is to be released April 2017 will help readers discover their story through art, journaling, and more. We are so honored to have had this amazing conversation with Rev. Sarah, you don’t want to miss this one!

#07 A Message of Hope for Our Veterans- Jake Schick, Executive Director of 22Kill

Jacob-Schick.jpg

“Through all my trials and tribulation I’ve learned from controversy comes character, but which way you take that character is entirely up to you,” said Schick. “You can take the high road or the low road. Without question this life is worth living. You get one shot, [so] make the most of it. It gets better. You’re going to make it. You don’t have to suffer alone.”

Jake Schick’s story will humble you, enlighten you and hopefully inspire you. What began as an “ordinary day at the office” quickly turned bad as he encountered a life-threatening bomb while on duty in Iraq. Jake kept his life but his body would never be the same after that fateful day. Now the executive director of the nonprofit, 22Kill, He has triumphantly used his own traumatic experience to shine light on one the deadliest killers of our veterans: suicide.

“22KILL works to raise awareness to the suicide epidemic that is plaguing our country, and educate the public on mental health issues such as PTS. 22KILL also serves as a resource for veterans, and continues to build on its network of like-minded organizations to be able to connect veterans with programs and services in their local area. Funds raised through merchandise sales and donations are used to support partnered organizations who offer programs focusing on veteran empowerment, mental health treatment, and therapy/counseling for veterans and their families.”

#06 Let’s Embrace Kids with Special Needs- Arielle Hobbs, Founder of PRIDE Inclusive Sports

ahhs

When Arielle Hobbs tried to find activities for her non-verbal and intellectually disabled son, Sully, she was humiliated, frustrated, and out of options. Like any good Mama bear (or maybe lioness in this case?), Arielle began to dig deep to find resources for Sully. She discovered that the options were disappointing and limited. Arielle knew that she would have to create a more acceptable option for her kid and others like him. Thinking totally out of the box, Arielle has created Pride Inclusive Sports which provides a trained youth volunteer or “buddy” from their “Lion League,” for children with special needs to participate in ANY activity they choose! This work is ground-breaking and so important for all parents to be aware of. We can’t wait to share Arielle’s story with you!

#02 An Open Adoption Journey- Interview with Jaclyn Snyder

This week, Jaclyn Snyder shares her family’s journey through the adoption process. She and her husband weren’t sure which route was best for them, there were so many options to choose from: foster-to-adopt, international, domestic, boy/girl, special needs… The list goes on. This is a story about not having all of the answers but moving forward, one step at a time. We hope this episode inspires you to throw fear to the wayside and to move toward your calling, even if you don’t have it all figured out yet.
